When a child joins your home, we want to help.
We offer a one-time $150 payment to Texas foster and kinship families each time a child is newly placed with you through DFPS. It is a small way to ease the cost of welcoming a child, right when they arrive.

$150 per child, each time a new child is placed with you. The Foster Family Program is a one-time payment to help with the costs that come with a new placement. You can receive it for every child who is newly placed in your home through DFPS, whether it is your first placement or your fifth. There is nothing to pay back, and you do not need to show receipts. We simply want to support the families who open their doors to Texas children.
Who can apply
You can apply if all of these are true:
- You live in Texas.
- You are a foster or kinship family. This includes relatives, fictive kin, and legal risk placements.
- A child was newly placed in your home through DFPS. First placement or a later one, both count.
- It has been fewer than 90 days since the placement date on your DFPS form.
One payment is available per child, per placement.
How to apply

Fill out the online form
Tell us about your family and the child, using the information from your DFPS paperwork. -
Upload your DFPS form
Add page 1 of your Placement Authorization form (2085FC, 2085KO, or 2085LR). That is the page with the child’s information and the placement date, which we use to confirm the placement. -
We mail your payment
Once we confirm the placement, we send your $150 to the address you provide on the application.
Good to know
- The payment is $150 for each child, each time a new child is placed with you.
- You have 90 days from the placement date to apply, so it helps to apply soon after a child arrives.
- Support is available while funds remain. Applying early gives your family the best chance to receive it.
- Your payment is mailed to the address you enter on the application.
